Blue Eagles chairman Alexander Ngwala says coach Elia Kananji will stay put at the club after he managed to transform the team since joining last year.

Kananji joined the area 30 based side in November 2021 on a yearlong deal, replacing Gerald Phiri senior at a time the team survived relegation in the TNM super league on the last day of the season.

Under Kananji, Blue Eagles has been a strong side as they challenged champions, Nyasa Big Bullets for the league title.

Ngwala says the Police headquarters side is happy with Kananji’s performance.

"From where we are coming from, it is an achievement for Blue Eagles to be fighting for second position as we almost got relegated in the league last season,” Ngwala said.

He said the performance of the team this season means the technical panel together with the players have done a good job necessitating keeping the group together for the coming season.

"Kananji will be given another one year contract as we have been impressed with what he has done with the team," said Ngwala.

Kananji is highly regarded in the country and has in the past helped two Blantyre based arch rivals Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers win the Carlsberg cup in 2014 and 2015 respectively
