Two men who worked as gate cashiers during matches have been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment each for stealing gate revenue amounting to MK218,000.00.
The two are Chikaiko Msinde and Lawrence Kasiya
They had been assigned as cashiers, working for D & S Event Managers, at Dedza Stadium during a TNM Super League match between Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar FC and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers where they are said to have stolen the money.
Passing his verdict, Magistrate Clemence Chamwenda said, the conduct of the two has the potential of bringing down football standards in the country.
Super League of Malawi (SULOM) president Tiya Somba Banda was pleased the two had been punished.
"This is a lesson to people who man gates that once caught they will be jailed,” he said.
