Salima Sugar Company has announced that it will start sponsoring Dedza Dynamos as one way of honouring the team’s chief supporter Akim Kondowole who died in a road accident on Sunday.

Kondowole’s death shocked the football fraternity, dying in a road accident only a few hours after watching his beloved team win 3-2 against Ekwendendeni Hammers in an entertaining match at Dedza Stadium.

Salima Sugar Company General Secretary, Charles Thupi told mourners during the funeral ceremony of Kondowole that his company had decided to honour the fallen supporters by offering sponsorship to the Dedza super league outfit.

"The sponsorship comes as one way of acknowledging the role that the late Mageshi had in the team as far as financial issues were concerned," Thupi said.

He further said that they will arrange for a meeting with Dedza Dynamos officials to discuss terms of the sponsorship package.

The sponsorship offer was warmly welcomed by Dynamos.

The team’s General Secretary Mavuto Mugode thanked Salima Sugar Company for the gesture.

"We are happy that Salima Sugar has come on board to sponsor us but we don't know if they meet our budget proposal of MK60 - MK70 million a season," said Mugode.

Salima Sugar Company has made the decision barely a month after announcing that it will not renew a MK5 million sponsorship package deal they had with Mighty Wanderers.
